The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has postponed the launch of spot Ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) originally planned for early July. The delay follows the SEC's request for more time to review the S-1 forms submitted by ETF issuers, which now must be resubmitted by July 8th. Consequently, the ETF launch might be pushed to mid-to-late July.

The SEC's feedback on the S-1 forms was reportedly minor. Nate Geraci, President of ETF Store, noted that the SEC typically clears such issuers within 14 to 21 days after revisions, suggesting a potential summer launch timeline without specifying exact dates.

Eric Balchunas, a Bloomberg ETF analyst, had earlier anticipated an early July ETF launch window, citing the SEC staff's limited comments on the S-1 filings from applicants.

This S-1 form process is the second step in the ETF launch procedure, following the approval of the 19b-4 form in May, which greenlit eight ETF applicants on May 23rd.

SEC Chairman Gary Gensler affirmed progress in approving spot Ether ETFs, with a new rule allowing participation from major entities like BlackRock, Fidelity, 21Shares, Grayscale, Franklin Templeton, VanEck, iShares, and Invesco. VanEck and others have filed 8-A forms in preparation for exchange listings by July 8th.

Despite these developments, Gensler cautioned that listing processes might extend into months and could extend beyond September, depending on applicants' responsiveness.
