The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has raised objections to Ripple's attempt to redact evidence in their remedies briefing, as per a court filing on May 20.

While acknowledging Ripple's right to seal certain exhibits, the SEC argues that concealing financial and securities sales information is unlawful, asserting that these details are essential for the requested remedies.

The SEC contends that Ripple, having been adjudicated for selling investment contracts without proper registration or disclosure, persists in attempting to hide information that should have been disclosed legally to sell those securities.

The SEC, led by Gary Gensler, insists that Ripple should have publicly disclosed the financial information and pricing it now seeks to conceal, citing legal requirements for disclosure of various categories of information in a registration statement.

Furthermore, the SEC highlights that Ripple cannot claim harm from disclosing information it is legally obligated to reveal, emphasizing that choosing to raise money publicly forfeits some privacy interests in compliance with securities laws.

This partial opposition from the SEC is the latest development in the ongoing case against Ripple, which nears its conclusion, with the financial regulator seeking a $2 billion fine against the crypto company. Ripple, however, contests this request, labeling it baseless and advocating for a penalty not exceeding $10 million. In its first-quarter report for this year, Ripple expressed confidence in the judge's fair approach during the remedies phase.
