Shytoshi Kusama, the enigmatic leader of the Shiba Inu team, recently addressed the community, congratulating the Ethereum supporters on the approval of the spot Ethereum exchange-traded fund (ETF) by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In his message, Kusama also hinted at the potential for a SHIB spot ETF in the future.

In a public post, Kusama extended his congratulations to the friends of SHIB and Shibarium at Ethereum, celebrating the SEC’s decision to approve the spot ETH ETF. He speculated on the possibility that this milestone could pave the way for a similar approval for SHIB. However, Kusama emphasized that his main focus remains on the upcoming developments for the SHIB project, encouraging the community to discuss the ETF possibility while he concentrates on future plans. He ended his message with the hashtag #staytuned, adding an air of anticipation.

The SEC's approval of the spot Ethereum ETFs came on Thursday, May 24, following several months of deliberation. This decision arrived six months after the regulator approved spot Bitcoin ETFs in January. Ethereum, being the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, marked a significant step forward for the crypto industry with this approval. Venture investor Anthony Pompliano recently tweeted that this development represents the last major barrier before full acceptance of crypto assets by Wall Street.

The approved Ethereum ETFs include submissions from prominent firms such as BlackRock, Grayscale (which converted its Ethereum Trust into a spot ETF), VanEck, Bitwise, Fidelity, and Ark Invest. Despite their significance, these spot Ethereum ETFs are expected to be relatively smaller in terms of assets under management. For instance, Grayscale’s Ethereum ETF holds around $11 billion in ETH, a figure much smaller compared to its Bitcoin Trust before its conversion to a spot ETF.

Earlier this month, Ark, Grayscale, and Fidelity had to adjust their ETF filings to exclude staking, following the SEC’s legal actions against Coinbase and Kraken over their crypto staking services, which the SEC classified as unregistered securities.

Kusama’s comments come at a time of significant regulatory shifts in the crypto landscape, reflecting the broader acceptance and institutionalization of digital assets. As the SHIB community speculates about the possibility of a SHIB ETF, Kusama’s message underscores a focus on ongoing and future projects that aim to solidify Shiba Inu’s position in the market.
