The Shiba Inu team has partnered with domain firm D3 to establish SHIB domains for websites and email. They aim to apply for a top-level domain (TLD) for .shib with ICANN, a nonprofit organization overseeing various aspects of the internet.

While Unstoppable Domains and Ethereum Name Service offer domain services for .crypto or .eth, these domains can only be linked to crypto wallets, not web browsers. Shiba Inu seeks to change this by becoming the first crypto domain to integrate into the mainstream internet.

To achieve this goal, Shiba Inu collaborates with infrastructure provider D3 Global to expedite acquiring a TLD. Shytoshi Kusama, the main developer at Shiba Inu, highlights that partnering with D3 expands Shiba Inu's reach beyond its ecosystem, connecting it with five billion internet users.

Integrating a real domain into SHIB is significant for expanding virtual identities and long-term revenue generation pipelines within the ecosystem, according to the lead developer. Success in obtaining the TLD will take time, as the next TLD cycle is slated to begin in spring 2026. The collaboration between Shiba Inu and D3 will align with this cycle.
