In a bid to safeguard its users from malicious attacks, the Solana Foundation has taken a stern stance against validators enabling sandwich attacks on its network. The foundation has decided to remove a group of validator operators from its delegation program, effective immediately.

Sandwich attacks, a type of maximal extractable value (MEV) attack, involve bots scanning the network for users attempting to purchase a token, then jumping ahead in the transaction queue to place a large order, driving up the token's price. The bots then sell their tokens at the inflated price, profiting at the expense of the user.

The Solana Foundation's decision aims to prevent such attacks, which have been wreaking havoc on its network. Tim Garcia, Solana Validator Relations Lead, emphasized that the foundation will continue to detect and reject operators participating in mempool activities that enable sandwich attacks. Mert Mumtaz, co-founder of Solana RPC provider Helius, applauded the move, stating that it ensures the foundation doesn't delegate to validators conducting malicious attacks targeting retail users.

The decision is a welcome respite for users, as sandwich attacks have been a persistent issue on the Solana network.
