The Solana Foundation has taken decisive action against a group of validator operators involved in sandwich attacks, a manipulative tactic harming traders. These operators have been removed from the delegation program due to their participation in malicious activities targeting Solana users.

Sandwich attacks, a notorious exploit in the crypto world, involve placing orders before and after a pending transaction to manipulate asset prices. This unethical practice ensures that retail investors receive unfavorable prices while the attacker profits from the price difference.

Identified through mempools, which facilitate sandwich attacks, these validators violated Solana Foundation rules prohibiting malicious activity. As a consequence, they will no longer receive delegation work, marking a stern stance against such behavior.

Tim Garcia, Solana's validator relations lead, emphasized that any involvement in malicious activities will not be tolerated and will result in immediate rejection from the program. The Foundation aims to protect users from exploitation and ensure the integrity of the Solana ecosystem.

The Solana Foundation Delegation Program, established to support validators by assigning them SOL tokens, plays a crucial role in the network's functioning. Validators, selected based on performance, are entrusted with creating blocks and verifying transactions.

However, the Foundation is now facing challenges posed by operators seeking to profit at the expense of retail users. Mert Mumtaz, co-founder of Solana RPC provider Helius, highlighted the issue, noting that some operators have exploited the system using mods to enable sandwiching on Solana.

Despite the Foundation's efforts to empower validators, it remains committed to safeguarding users against fraudulent activities. Protecting retail investors and preserving the integrity of the Solana network are paramount priorities for the Foundation as it continues to evolve and grow.
