Solana founder Anatoly Yakovenko announced that SOL has outpaced Ethereum in a crucial metric—the economic barrier for honest nodes to participate in consensus. Yakovenko stated that this barrier for Solana is ten times higher than Ethereum's. Typically, both blockchains rely on a network of nodes to validate and record transactions, a process known as consensus, which ensures network performance and security.

Yakovenko noted that participating in the consensus process comes at a high cost, driven by the expenses of running powerful hardware and energy consumption. Solana's higher costs are attributed to Ethereum's investment in Boneh-Lynn-Sacham (BLS) aggregation for consensus messages, a cryptographic signature scheme that allows nodes to independently verify messages.

Ethereum community member Ryan Berckmans highlighted the financial burden of running a Solana validator, which costs over $65,000 per year, with the Solana Foundation currently providing financial support. Yakovenko mentioned plans to adopt a more efficient consensus mechanism to lower voting fees, suggesting that improved hardware will eventually reduce these costs. He also proposed creating voting subcommittees to further lower fees and reduce the voting load.

Both Ethereum and Solana have seen minor price declines recently, reflecting decreased demand in the market. Solana's price has dropped 12.91% to $150.5, while Ethereum's price has fallen 9.49% to $3,485. Despite these declines, crypto analyst Ali Martinez predicts a potential 53% price surge for Solana. Meanwhile, Ethereum's value continues to decrease despite the recent approval of Spot Ethereum ETFs by the SEC.
