Somnia, an L1 blockchain and a suite of omnichain protocols, has reached a significant milestone with the recent launch of its Betanet protocol, bringing the metaverse one step closer to interconnectedness. This development heralds a new era where assets and experiences can fluidly traverse diverse virtual environments.

Utilizing technology from MSquared and Improbable, Somnia has successfully launched a high-quality Betanet on its protocol while concurrently developing the scalable and cost-effective Somnia Blockchain.

Somnia's omni-chain protocols, collectively known as SOM0, are designed to unite the metaverse into a cohesive ecosystem, fostering unparalleled compatibility and interoperability. The Betanet serves as a testing ground for these protocols, consisting of three core components: the Object protocol for generating virtual objects capable of traversing any metaversal experience, the Attestation protocol for streamlined validation, and the Marketplace protocol, acting as a global liquidity layer for creators to trade digital assets.

Somnia CEO Paul Thomas expressed excitement about the Betanet's launch, stating, "The metaverse is on the verge of significant transformation, and Somnia is at the forefront with our Betanet release. We are thrilled to empower creators and users with the necessary tools to manifest their visions."

In Phase 1 of Somnia's Betanet, running on the ETH Sepolia Testnet, users can integrate their digital identities into the Somnia Protocol by creating personalized avatars through collaboration with Avaturn. These avatars are compatible with any world or experience built on Somnia, enabling users to participate in major MSquared events such as the Twice listening party and MLB Virtual Ballpark.

In subsequent phases, Somnia plans to partner with established NFT projects to imbue beloved collections with a presence in the metaverse, rendering them as 3D avatars for use across interoperable experiences. This initiative aims to unlock new dimensions of utility and value for NFT collectors.

Future stages of the Betanet will grant users access to the Metaverse Browser, enabling exploration of the Somnia Ecosystem and the Playground, where they can create virtual spaces, socialize with friends, and import or create 3D objects. A subsequent Testnet phase will introduce a prototype of Somnia's blockchain, serving as the cornerstone of the metaverse's economy.
