The Democratic Party of Korea, which won the recent elections with a narrow margin, plans to request the Financial Services Commission (FSC) to reassess spot Bitcoin ETFs. This move aims to attract crypto investors and potentially swing voting preferences.

The importance of cryptocurrency investors is growing globally, with Turkey's local cryptocurrency exchanges rivaling traditional stock markets in daily volume. Politicians are aware that decisions on cryptocurrencies can have significant repercussions on voters' preferences, with a single political decision potentially leading to thousands of dollars gained or lost. In South Korea, the opposition party, now in power, holds 175 of the 300 legislative seats, making siding with crypto investors a strategic move to win elections.

The Democratic Party plans to officially request the FSC to reconsider its January 18th decision, which prohibited domestic securities firms from listing foreign spot BTC ETFs. If the regulatory body resists, a revision of the Capital Market Law might be necessary, potentially taking months. However, if the FSC cooperates, South Korean investors may soon be able to invest in spot Bitcoin ETFs, accelerating capital inflows.
