Sports Illustrated's ticketing arm, SI Tickets, has revealed its transition from the Polygon blockchain to Avalanche for its NFT ticketing platform, Box Office, nearly a decade after its inception. This migration comes about through a partnership with Ava Labs, the team driving the Avalanche network.

Moving forward, Box Office will mint NFT tickets using the Avalanche blockchain, with Avalanche facilitating the transformation of tickets into interactive, dynamic content for event attendees. Initially launched on Polygon in May 2023, Box Office empowered event hosts to offer exclusive perks to their guests, such as expedited entry, drink vouchers, and pre-event music downloads. Post-event benefits included access to video content and other rewards tied to their ticket.

CEO of Sports Illustrated, David Lane, emphasized that traditional tickets lose their value once scanned at an event's entrance and are typically discarded thereafter. However, with NFT ticketing on the Avalanche blockchain, these tickets evolve into platforms for engagement and interaction among event owners, venues, performers, sponsors, and attendees.

Lane highlighted the significant potential of NFTs within the sports realm, acknowledging their capacity to draw sports enthusiasts into the Web3 sphere. He anticipates continued growth in the market as fans recognize the value of NFT offerings. Viewing blockchain ticketing as a crucial use case for the widespread adoption of NFTs and blockchain technology, Lane emphasized its numerous potential benefits.

Moreover, Lane suggested that blockchain-based tickets not only create multiple engagement avenues but also generate new revenue streams for event organizers through monetizable content. Conversely, attendees gain access to exclusive rewards and content, enriching their overall event experience.
