As reported by PYMNTS, Paxos CEO Charles Cascarilla described the layoffs as a strategic reorientation to capitalize on the opportunities in tokenization and stablecoins.

Cascarilla highlighted that the company's focus on regulated, yield-bearing stablecoins influenced the layoffs. Stablecoins, typically pegged to assets like the US dollar, offer price stability. Paxos aims to innovate in this space with their new Lift Dollar (USDL), which Cascarilla described as a pioneering, regulated product providing daily safe yields.

This strategic shift follows Paxos’ termination of its partnership with Binance’s branded stablecoin due to regulatory pressures.

Moving forward, Paxos plans to exit settlement services in commodities and securities to focus on expanding its stablecoin offerings and exploring asset tokenization. Despite challenges, including regulatory scrutiny and the end of its Binance relationship, Paxos continues to innovate, launching new products like PayPal USD in 2023, backed by US dollar deposits and similar assets.
