Are you ready for the next wave of digital asset investment options? State Street Global Advisors and Galaxy Digital are joining forces to bring a new suite of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to the market, designed to offer exposure beyond just spot Bitcoin.

State Street, a leading asset manager with $4.1 trillion under management, has recognized the burgeoning interest in digital assets from both institutional and retail investors. Since the advent of spot Bitcoin ETFs, demand for diversified digital asset investment options has skyrocketed. In a recent statement, State Street emphasized that "the next level of growth" in the digital asset ecosystem will come from investment options that go beyond "pure spot" Bitcoin.

This collaboration marks a significant step forward, as State Street filed a proposal on June 26 with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch the SPDR Galaxy Digital Asset Ecosystem ETF. This new fund aims to invest in publicly-traded companies involved in the digital asset space. The potential investment targets are diverse, including crypto exchanges, mining firms, hardware wallet service providers, and crypto-focused venture capital firms, both in the U.S. and internationally. Additionally, the fund plans to include investments in futures and spot ETF products.

Furthermore, State Street has proposed two more ETFs: the SPDR Galaxy Emerging Technology Enablers ETF and the Hedged Digital Asset Ecosystem ETF. These offerings underscore the company's commitment to broadening access to the digital asset market and providing investors with more comprehensive exposure to this evolving asset class.

Dadi Kristjansson, CEO of Viska Digital Assets, hailed this move as a sign of crypto’s growing acceptance as a mainstream asset class. "Crypto is slowly but surely becoming a mainstream asset class. Yet another sign here. Bullish," Kristjansson remarked in a social media post.

Nate Geraci, President of the ETF Store, also noted the significance of this development, though he expressed surprise that State Street didn’t fully commit to spot Bitcoin and soon-to-be-launched spot Ether ETFs. Despite this, the introduction of these new ETFs is seen as a noteworthy advancement in the digital asset investment landscape.

State Street Bank and Trust is set to provide administrative and accounting services for these ETFs, leveraging its experience in the digital asset space since launching a dedicated division in June 2021. Although State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) was not among the recent applicants for spot Bitcoin or Ether ETFs, the company’s strategic move with Galaxy Digital indicates its forward-looking approach in the digital asset market.

In the competitive landscape of digital asset ETFs, spot Bitcoin ETFs from SSGA’s competitors have already attracted over $14.4 billion in flows in just over five months, according to Farside Investor data. With State Street’s new initiatives, the digital asset ecosystem is poised for further expansion and innovation.
