Shortly after the introduction of BlobScriptions, Ultrasound money's data revealed a quick escalation in Blob transaction fees, peaking at 585 gwei merely within five hours post-launch, roughly translating to $18. This spike marked a significant difference from the previous standard fee for imprinting data on a blob, which stood at a meager fraction of $0.01.

Despite the abrupt surge, the Blob fees have undergone a substantial decline from their initial peak. Additionally, statistics from Dune Analytics indicate that users have generated more than 4,500 entries into blobs ever since BlobScriptions were implemented.

Tom Lehman, the brains behind Ethscriptions operating under the pseudonym Middlemarch, addressed the escalating cost of blobspace in a published post to X on March 27, encouraging users to create BlobScriptions using the official blobscription protocol.

Reflecting a reminiscent vibe from the early Bitcoin Ordinals era, Ethereum users are increasingly choosing to imprint concise textual snippets and seemingly random image assortments onto blobs. Recent activity on blobscription io showcases a constant influx of hundreds of fresh images uploaded within the last few hours.

A key aspect to note is the temporary storage nature of Blob data on Ethereum nodes, lasting a mere 18 days. Consequently, the data associated with BlobScriptions will become purged from the network upon the end of this period. However, Lehman assured users that the Ethscriptions indexer would permanently retain the data.

Blobs were initially introduced through EIP-4844, constituting a fundamental data preservation element of Ethereum’s Dencun upgrade, which predominantly focuses on markedly diminishing transaction expenses across Layer-2 networks. Post the Dencun upgrade rollout, transaction fees within Ethereum's Layer-2 networks witnessed a notable plummet, with fees on platforms like Arbitrum diving from approximately $1.25 to under $0.02. Similarly, fees on Polygon underwent a comparable reduction.

In a celebratory move to honor the reduced transaction charges accompanying the advent of blobs, an Ethereum developer managed to inscribe the entire script of the Bee Movie onto an Ethereum blob for less than $13 in ETH transaction fees, a mere 15 minutes following the upgrade's launch.
