Despite the downturn, major Bitcoin holders, colloquially known as whales, appear to have heeded the investment wisdom often attributed to Warren Buffett: "Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful."

Peter Schiff, a vocal Bitcoin critic, had recently predicted further declines for the cryptocurrency after it hit its lowest levels in nearly two months.
