Tether, the leading entity in the digital asset sector, has unveiled a significant strategic move by investing $200 million in Blackrock Neurotech, a prominent innovator in Brain-Computer-Interface (BCI) technology. This investment marks the inauguration of Tether's new venture division, Tether Evo, described by CEO Paolo Ardoino as "the cornerstone of its long-term vision and strategy."

Ardoino stressed Tether's dedication to supporting technologies that enhance people's lives, stating, "We believe in giving back and investing in technologies that enhance people's lives." He underscored the company's established commitment, evident in its stablecoin, USDt, within the finance domain, and expressed Tether's intention to replicate this success by backing peer-to-peer technologies and AI infrastructure through collaborations with companies like Holepunch, Keet, Pears, and Northern Data.

Ardoino depicted Tether Evo as a logical progression in the company's evolution, with a focus on human potential. He remarked, "We aim to assist the millions worldwide affected by paralysis, loss of function, and neurological disorders hindering walking, vision, hearing, sensation, or speech."

The investment in Blackrock Neurotech aligns with this mission, as the company's implants have showcased remarkable capabilities, including converting thoughts to text at 90 characters per minute, thoughts to speech at 62 words per minute, interfacing directly with computers, controlling robotic limbs, restoring sensation, and enhancing brain-to-device communication.

Blackrock Neurotech has previously garnered attention for its pioneering technology. In 2016, patient Nathan Copeland used a Blackrock BCI to manipulate a robotic arm and exchange a fist bump with then-U.S. President Barack Obama, even experiencing tactile feedback from the President's hand through implants in his sensory cortex. The company's technology has empowered patients to operate robotic arms, navigate wheelchairs, send messages, browse the internet, and drive a car solely through the power of their thoughts.

This investment coincides with Tether's recent expansion and diversification endeavors. With a market cap exceeding $109 billion and substantial holdings in US Treasury bills, the company is venturing into sectors such as peer-to-peer communications, Bitcoin mining, education, and artificial intelligence.
