In a significant milestone for the Tezos ecosystem, the Tezos network has successfully implemented its 16th upgrade, dubbed "Paris". This upgrade is a crucial step forward in Tezos' scalability roadmap, aimed at enhancing the platform's capabilities and reducing transaction fees.

The Paris upgrade introduces several key features that will significantly improve the Tezos network's performance. One of the most notable additions is the Data Availability Layer (DAL), which will enable Tezos-based layer-2 (L2) scaling solutions to reach a throughput of millions of transactions per second (TPS). This will make Tezos more competitive with other Ethereum L2s like Arbitrum and Optimism.

According to Tezos co-founder Arthur Breitman, the Paris upgrade will have a profound impact on the platform's scalability. "The introduction of DAL will enable Tezos' Smart Rollups to scale to execute millions of TPS in the future," Breitman explained. "This feat was achieved by exploiting horizontal scaling capabilities, and we're excited to see the potential of our L2 solutions unfold."

The Paris upgrade also improves the user experience (UX) on the Etherlink network, an EVM-compatible L2 network built on Tezos. With faster transaction finality times and lower fees, Etherlink users will enjoy a seamless and efficient experience. Breitman notes that Etherlink users will benefit from improved UX, with L2 time to finality on par with Arbitrum One and Optimism, but with better L1 publication latency.

The reduced block times, from 15 seconds to 10 seconds, will create faster transaction finality, reducing latencies when performing payments and improving the overall user experience across decentralized applications (DApps) built on Tezos. This upgrade demonstrates Tezos' commitment to maintaining low transaction fees while improving its overall performance and user experience.
