Carmona, Brend, and their cohorts spun a web of deceit, assuring investors that the company's crypto endeavors would yield guaranteed daily returns – a siren song too tantalizing for many to resist.

Yet, beneath the facade of prosperity, IcomTech was nothing more than a house of cards, a mirage in the digital desert. Prosecutors alleged that the company never engaged in any legitimate trading or mining activities. Instead, it operated as a classic Ponzi scheme, using funds from new investors to pay fictitious "profits" to earlier participants, all the while the promoters siphoned off vast sums for their personal indulgences.

Brend and his accomplices lived large, indulging in real estate, lavish travel, and opulent expos where they strutted in expensive cars and designer threads, their very appearance a carefully crafted illusion designed to ensnare more victims with promises of "financial freedom." As complaints mounted and investors clamored to withdraw their supposed profits, IcomTech resorted to issuing a worthless cryptocurrency called "Icoms," a desperate ploy to raise more funds under the guise of legitimacy.

Alas, the house of cards inevitably collapsed in 2019, and IcomTech ceased making payments, leaving tens of thousands of investors defrauded of tens of millions of dollars – their dreams of crypto riches reduced to ashes.

In the aftermath, U.S. Attorney Damian Williams delivered a stern rebuke, "Brend and Rodriguez cheated hardworking people out of their hard-earned money through a web of lies. As a result of their deception, they now face substantial time behind bars."
