However, as the month progressed, traders shifted their focus towards Solana [SOL] in pursuit of higher returns from the proliferation of meme coins released through pre-sales. This shift in market trends away from Ethereum-based meme coins has arguably contributed to the decrease in transaction fees observed.

As the fees on the Ethereum mainnet decreased, there was a noticeable slowdown in the rate at which ETH coins were being removed from circulation. Every transaction on Ethereum results in a set amount of ETH being burned, representing the minimum requirement for a transaction to be deemed valid, known as the base fee. Recent data illustrates a sharp decline in the burn rate in the past few weeks, leading to an increase in the inflation rate. The reduced deflationary pressure brought about by this decline may have played a role in the 12% drop in ETH's value following the implementation of Dencun.
