The Elderberry upgrade is now live on Polygon's zkEVM Mainnet Beta, marking a significant enhancement in the network's capabilities. Infrastructure providers must update their node and prover to ensure compatibility with the new version. This step aims to promote the widespread adoption of Web3 technology.

Elderberry introduces crucial optimizations related to the ROM, reducing certain errors on the network. Additionally, it includes fixes for the recent Etrog upgrade. Similar to Ethereum's EVM Interpreter, Elderberry interprets transaction execution logic and opcodes for Polygon's zkEVM.

With the Elderberry upgrade live, framework builders must follow specific steps to effectively utilize it. Infrastructure developers need the latest versions of the bridge service, prover, and node, while dApp builders need not make any changes. End users will not experience any changes in functionality.

Testing was conducted on Polygon's zkEVM Cardona Testnet prior to implementation, ensuring a smooth transition for users. In February, a 10-day timelock was announced for the upgrade of Polygon's zkEVM Mainnet, which concluded on March 7, allowing users to withdraw funds if needed before the upgrade took effect.
