Gateway, a prominent provider of blockchain infrastructure, has unveiled cdk-erigon, a novel execution client for the Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK), an open-source toolkit used to establish zk-powered Layer 2 chains for Ethereum.

Thanks to the introduction of cdk-erigon, infrastructure providers now have the option to incorporate Polygon CDK chains with various EVM clients. This addition brings the lightning-fast and highly efficient Erigon node to Polygon CDK, known for its memory optimization capabilities. Compared to the zkNode on Polygon CDK, CDK-Erigon utilizes significantly less disk space and boasts mainnet sync times that are over 150 times faster.

With cdk-erigon joining zkNode as an execution client for Polygon CDK, the industry now benefits from the first multi-client zkEVM tech stack. Furthermore, starting early next year, cdk-erigon will be integrated into the Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta as an RPC node.

The primary developers of Ethereum's Erigon technology are part of the Gateway team, a leading provider of web3 infrastructure. Gateway's involvement in the development of high-performance clients for Polygon CDK as platform contributors will bring significant advantages to the entire Polygon ecosystem.

David Schwartz, CTO and co-founder of Polygon Labs, expressed his satisfaction with Gateway joining the Polygon CDK community and highlighted the compatibility of Polygon CDK with the cutting-edge Erigon technology. With the battle-tested ZK-powered Ethereum Layer 2 software now available, deploying a blockchain with top-notch performance and efficiency has become more accessible.

Already, several projects such as OKX, Gnosis Pay, Immutable, Astar, Canto, Palm Network, and IDEX are utilizing and testing Polygon CDK. In the future, chains deployed using Polygon CDK may become unified and compatible across a broader network of ZK-powered L2s within the Polygon CDK ecosystem.
