The Ethereum Attestation Service (EAS) has successfully launched, allowing users to perform attestations both on-chain and off-chain. Recognizing the need for a reliable trust layer in decentralized applications, EAS uses various Ethereum Virtual Machines (EVMs). Currently available on Arbitrum, it will eventually be deployed on the Mainnet, followed by Optimism and other chains, enhancing the cost-effectiveness, convenience, and reliability of attestations in the Ethereum ecosystem.

EAS is a public good designed to facilitate on- and off-chain attestations, aiming to improve portability, interoperability, and composability. The service operates on the belief that a centralized team or tokenization of the base layer for attestations and trust would hinder innovation. Hence, EAS is open-source, permissionless, tokenless, and composable, serving as a free resource for the public.

As a public good, EAS is free and accessible to everyone, created for the public’s benefit. It promotes creativity and innovation, providing educational resources and documentation to assist users and developers in utilizing its services, thereby benefiting the entire Ethereum community.

Attestations foster trust and transparency within the Ethereum network, simplifying the development of decentralized applications that require trust. EAS enables developers to create and attest to schemas easily, enhancing connectivity, portability, and interoperability across the EVM ecosystem.

EAS also showcases the potential of the Ethereum ecosystem, allowing users and developers to build innovative projects. It operates through two smart contracts: one for creating schemas and another for making attestations.

Attestations are proofs provided by anyone on the Ethereum network, digitally signed records that authenticate facts about individuals or entities. They are applicable in voting systems, proof of X, content verification, reputation systems, supply chain provenance, and prediction markets.

The EAS launch includes an attestation explorer, a no-code schema builder, a no-code attestation maker, an SDK, off-chain attestation capabilities, developer documentation, and educational resources. The attestation explorer simplifies browsing and authenticating attestations made using EAS.
