Cryptocurrencies were mainly created to be money, a method of storing and transferring value. But since the creation of cryptocurrencies Beginning with the launch of Bitcoin in 2009, cryptocurrencies have gone on to be as centered on being an investment opportunity just as much as it is centered on being just money.

The amount of Hive and HBD an upvote can give depends on the amount of HP a person has. HP is simply Hive that has been staked. So if you’ve staked 1000 hive, you have 1000 HP.

The upvoter and the owner of the post get equal rewards. So whoever Upvotes a post is rewarded too and this reward is also dependent on how much HP a person has.

Say you have 1000 HP, with only upvoting posts everyday you can get 50 HP in 250 days. That is 5% of your investment. Sounds low but that’s not all. Having HP also makes you get a lot more Upvotes on your posts because other people with HP would upvote you so that you would notice them and upvote them too.

They’d go on to be friends with you and engage with your content. And remember you can post every day and make lots of comments everyday too. You can be getting a lot of Upvotes on your posts and comments.

Furthermore, there are smaller communities within hive like Sports Community, Science Community, etc. that have their own tokens and you can earn them by getting and giving upvotes depending on the amount the upvoter has staked. Note that these community tokens currently mostly have really low values but they increase sometimes and some of them have been worth more than Hive and HBD before.

Hive Backed Dollars (HBD) Interests

The stablecoin of the Ecosystem called Hive Backed Dollars earned from Upvotes also has the option to save and receive interest. Currently, the interest rate is 20% per annum but the rate is decided by Witness votes.

Simply having HBD locked in savings would yield you 20% at the end of the year.
