However, the proposed tax on crypto mining presents a significant departure. By imposing a 30% tax on electricity used in mining, irrespective of sourcing, the proposal risks pushing miners abroad and undermining the decentralized nature of cryptocurrencies. This tax, ostensibly aimed at addressing environmental concerns, fails to distinguish between sustainably sourced electricity and nonrenewable sources, placing undue financial strain on miners and potentially hindering innovation in the sector.
