On June 15, The Sandbox metaverse announced an official partnership with renowned film producer Lionsgate and its partner company Millennium Media. This collaboration will enable the studio to build a web3 destination for its popular action film content, starting with the launch of an exclusive LAND called Action City, featuring voxelized characters from beloved franchises.

This partnership marks Lionsgate as the first major film and television studio to join The Sandbox metaverse. The metaverse has an expansive roadmap focused on its rich production in horror and action genres, with Lionsgate helping to adapt its characters and plots to web3-supported formats.

The initial launch will include a Lionsgate-themed LAND area called Action City, allowing users to explore and engage with other fans. Action City will showcase popular franchises such as Hellboy, Rambo, and The Expendables. Content from both Lionsgate and Millennium will be adapted for web3, enabling users to customize their experience with favorite characters and stories, fostering synergy between the studio and its fans.

The voxelized 3D items featured in Action City will serve as more than just display pieces; they can be used as avatars to enhance appearances within the metaverse. Users can create original items and avatars based on Lionsgate content and trade or sell them for various perks.

Jenefer Brown, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Live, Interactive, and Location Based Entertainment at Lionsgate, expressed excitement about the new possibilities this strategic partnership with The Sandbox offers their community. She highlighted the potential for Lionsgate fans to engage, create, play, and explore their film IPs in ways beyond the real world.

Sebastian Borget, COO of The Sandbox, stated that the partnership aligns with the metaverse’s vision to create diverse virtual worlds and mentioned the incredible entertainment opportunities brought by a company with 129 Academy Awards.

Recently, The Sandbox also partnered with the Korean content creation company Studio Dragon. The Lionsgate partnership further enhances its reach into the global entertainment industry.
