The Sandbox, a pioneering decentralized gaming platform, has taken a significant step towards democratizing its decision-making process by launching its decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), The Sandbox DAO. This innovative initiative marks a new era of community-driven governance, empowering SAND holders and virtual LAND owners to shape the platform's growth and ecosystem.

The DAO will be implemented in three phases, each designed to ensure a smooth transition to community-driven governance. Phase one, commencing on May 28, will enable the community to vote on Sandbox Improvement Proposals (SIPs), although The Sandbox staff will still manage some operations. This initial phase is crucial in testing and refining the DAO's functionality, allowing the team to learn from any challenges and make necessary adjustments.

Phase two, dubbed the "exploration" phase, will see The Sandbox DAO become self-reliant, disentangling itself from the parent company. By phase three, the DAO is expected to be fully operational, enabling community-driven governance and ensuring that the community has a say in how the platform evolves and where the business focuses its time.

The Sandbox team emphasized the importance of a thoughtful and well-executed launch, stating that the three-phase rollout is designed to ensure a deliberate and measured approach to sustainable growth. The team also announced a leadership team composed of a council and advisers to guide the DAO. The Council includes prominent figures such as Sebastien Borget, co-founder and chief operating officer of The Sandbox, and Yat Siu, chairman of Animoca Brands.

The Council will work closely with trusted partners to develop the DAO and provide guidance and expertise to ensure accountability to the community. Community members who own five SAND or one LAND can vote on three initial SIPs, considered "foundational proposals to initiate the DAO's operations." These proposals will set the stage for the DAO's future operations and ensure that the community is actively involved in shaping the platform's direction.
