On Friday, 17th of November, the board of directors of OpenAI an Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the creators of chatGPT announced that Sam Altman as been ousted as the CEO of the company.

According to the announcement, the board of directors said,

“OpenAI was deliberately structured to advance our mission: to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all humanity. The board remains fully committed to serving this mission. We are grateful for Sam’s many contributions to the founding and growth of OpenAI. At the same time, we believe new leadership is necessary as we move forward. As the leader of the company’s research, product, and safety functions, Mira is exceptionally qualified to step into the role of interim CEO. We have the utmost confidence in her ability to lead OpenAI during this transition period.”

Following his removal, the crypto project he co-founded, The Worldcoin, fell by more than 12% after this announcement according to Cointelegraph

The token started dropping on Thursday from its peak of $2.48 as digital-asset markets pull back, a decline that was further intensified by Altman's dismissal on Friday. CoinGecko data reveals that Worldcoin eventually reached a low of $1.84 in the hours following his departure.

Worldcoin is a blockchain-based project that aims to define individual identity in a future driven by artificial intelligence, where differentiating between humans and machines might become increasingly challenging.

The project uses a small orb to scan people’s eyeballs to generate a unique digital identity for each individual. This initiative has sparked concerns, especially in Africa regarding both privacy and ethics.

Commenting on the reason for the drop, Mr Richard Galvin, Co-founder at Digital Asset Capital Management said,

“It’s all driven by Altman news flow and concerns over his ouster at OpenAI,”
