The Theta team is currently developing the Theta EdgeCloud, an innovative decentralized software platform tailored for edge computing. This platform aims to provide cost-effective connectivity for developers, researchers, and businesses, enabling them to leverage GPU processing capabilities for AI and video-related tasks. The Theta Edge Network enhances performance, and the first phase of EdgeCloud is set to launch on May 1, 2024, as outlined in Theta’s roadmap.

With the debut of the Theta Edge Network in 2021 through Mainnet 3.0, Theta addressed GPU-intensive video processing needs for allocation, encoding, and transcoding. The global Theta network currently boasts nearly 10,000 active edge nodes, making it one of the most extensive collections of allocated GPU computing power worldwide.

Theta's expansive processing capability, combined with connectivity to cloud partners, enables the availability of over 2,500 NVIDIA A100s and an additional 800+ PetaFLOPS. This infrastructure supports various AI modules, including text-to-image and text-to-video, enhancing the overall functionality of the platform.

The transition to a permissionless protocol eliminates development obstacles, fostering innovation within the community. AI developers will have greater autonomy in constructing AI pipelines, from prototyping to model deployment, leveraging EdgeCloud's GPU network and ray clusters.

In collaboration with partners like Lavita.AI, FedML, and Google Cloud, Theta aims to develop AI modules for video-to-text applications. Additionally, developers can select and deploy popular AI modules quickly, with the option to customize templates with additional features.

Theta plans to release scaled edge node software, offering elite features for node operators with 500,000 TFUELs staked, enabling them to share rewards from EdgeCloud AI compute activities.
