Toncoin, a native cryptocurrency of the TON decentralized ecosystem, aims to enable fast payment settlement, easy-to-use decentralized applications, low fees and other benefits offered by its layer-1 independent blockchain.

Launched in 2018, Toncoin was initially associated with the Telegram social network platform. After rebranding in 2020, a group of developers named NewTON changed aspects of the coin and ecosystem. Toncoin is used in staking within the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, which protects the TON blockchain.
