Alexey Pertsev, a developer for the Tornado Cash platform, has been sentenced to 64 months in prison following his conviction on money laundering charges. A Dutch court found Pertsev, 31, guilty of laundering $1.2 billion in cryptocurrency through Tornado Cash between July 9, 2019, and August 10, 2022, as reported by DL News.

The three-judge panel issued a five-year and four-month prison sentence, with one judge noting, "Tornado Cash in its nature and functioning is a tool intended for criminals."

Pertsev, a Russian national, has 14 days to appeal the decision. His legal team has not yet responded to requests for comment.

This case is part of a broader crackdown on individuals involved in the development of Tornado Cash. Roman Storm, the platform's co-founder, is also facing similar charges in the United States. Storm's trial is set to take place in a federal court in New York in September.
