In order to advance Bitcoin education globally, Trezor, the hardware cryptocurrency wallet firm, has officially launched the Trezor Academy, a comprehensive educational program, in Africa.

This initiative, unveiled at the Africa Bitcoin Conference in Accra, Ghana, on Dec. 4, underscores Trezor's commitment to fostering cryptocurrency awareness and understanding.

The Trezor Academy, initially introduced as a pilot program in 2023, is designed to facilitate in-person meetups led by local Bitcoin experts across various African countries. The aim is to create a platform that empowers individuals to grasp the potential of cryptocurrencies, with a particular focus on Bitcoin.

As of now, the Trezor Academy pilot has been active in countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Uganda, Burundi, and Kenya. Looking ahead to 2024, Trezor plans to expand its academies to over ten additional African countries, concurrently training hundreds of local educators to amplify Bitcoin knowledge.

Matej Zak, CEO of Trezor, emphasized the unique relevance of Bitcoin adoption in Africa, citing its potential contributions to local initiatives like payment schemes, microfinancing, and savings. The initiative seeks to bridge the knowledge gap and empower communities to harness the benefits of cryptocurrency.

In tandem with the educational initiative, Trezor is supporting Bitcoineta, a Bitcoin-themed vehicle dedicated to propagating Bitcoin awareness in West Africa, including Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. Launched in 2018 by nonprofits Bitcoin Argentina and Bitcoin Americana, Bitcoineta is a mobile campaign aimed at reaching diverse communities.

The African Bitcoineta road trip commenced on Dec. 1, with Trezor pledging to provide updates on the vehicle's journey via Bitcoineta's communication channels, including its X (formerly Twitter) account and various multimedia platforms.

Crucially, the Trezor Academy's launch and sustained efforts have been made possible through the backing of the Bitcoin community. Trezor expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting that 21 euros from each sale of its limited edition, Bitcoin-only version of the Trezor Safe 3 hardware wallet, launched in October, contributed to the realization of the educational initiative.
