Crypto hardware manufacturer Trezor has unveiled a new suite of products at BTC Prague 2024 to enhance self-custody of digital assets. The lineup features the Trezor Safe 5 hardware wallet and the “Trezor Expert” onboarding service.

The Trezor Safe 5 allows secure storage, management, staking, and usage of thousands of cryptocurrencies via the Trezor Suite desktop and mobile app. It includes a larger color touchscreen with haptic feedback, a new secure compute element for enhanced security, and a 20-word backup process. A Bitcoin-only variant is available for pre-order, with shipping starting in July. The Safe 5 is priced at $169.

Trezor emphasizes that its devices use open-source code, facilitating community audits and quick implementation of security fixes. The Safe 5’s secure element holds an EAL 6+ certification, usually reserved for high-security systems like national defense.

The new backup process uses Shamir’s secret sharing to split the master key into multiple shares, enhancing security by eliminating single points of failure. Trezor will also offer a 20-word Trezor Keep Metal solution to protect backup phrases from physical damage.

Additionally, Trezor announced Trezor Expert, a $99 personalized onboarding service available globally, providing expert assistance with setting up crypto cold-storage devices. This service ensures only the customer knows the backup and sensitive information.
