In a continuous effort to promote Bitcoin and cryptocurrency awareness and education in Africa, Trezor is launching a new educational academy on the continent. Named "The Trezor Academy," this initiative was unveiled during the Trezor-backed Africa Bitcoin Conference in Accra, Ghana, on December 4th, 2023.

The company released a statement on their X account, asserting,

Trezor is a secure hardware wallet designed for offline storage, allowing users to store, send, and receive cryptocurrencies without internet connectivity.

The Trezor Academy is an educational institution aimed at promoting cryptocurrency knowledge and Bitcoin adoption in Africa. Launched as a trial initiative in 2023, it aimed to facilitate face-to-face gatherings led by community Bitcoin specialists. The objective was to create a forum where local participants could explore the cryptocurrency's potential.

At the academy, participants are expected to cover the following topics over three consecutive weeks:

1. Why Bitcoin matters

2. Why Bitcoin is best understood as sound money

3. How to utilize Bitcoin for local microtransactions

4. How to utilize Bitcoin for cross-border commerce

5. How to keep their Bitcoin safe

6. The best Bitcoin tools and educational resources

As per information shared on Trezor's blog, the ongoing Trezor Academy pilot has been operational in Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Uganda, Burundi, and Kenya. Throughout 2024, the company plans to establish academies in over ten additional African nations, aiming to train numerous local educators to further disseminate Bitcoin-related knowledge within these regions.

"Bitcoin adoption holds particular significance in Africa compared to other continents," noted Matej Zak, Trezor CEO. He highlighted Trezor's ability to offer various advantages for local initiatives, including support for payment schemes, microfinancing, savings, and general Bitcoin education.
