Another Accidental Bitcoin Transfer Increases the Value of Nakamoto's Genesis Address

Just after Bitcoin's 15th anniversary, someone accidentally transferred 26.917 BTC, worth $1.8 million, to the Genesis wallet that started the network. Since its creation, this address has always held a hardcoded block reward of 50 BTC and has accumulated various small transactions over the years. After receiving the 26.917 BTC, Nakamoto's wallet had 99.676 BTC and has since received more funds.

On May 17, at block height 843,872, someone mistakenly sent 0.10754671 BTC, worth $7,211 at current exchange rates, to the wallet. Arkham Intelligence, an on-chain monitoring and data platform, was the first to report this mistake. “Someone accidentally sent 90% of their BTC holdings to Satoshi Nakamoto last night,” Arkham reported on X. “They were trying to sacrifice an Ordinal for [Pups Token], but ended up sending almost their entire wallet balance – around $7K in BTC.”

Unfortunately, the sender cannot retrieve the BTC. Despite these occasional accidental transactions, Satoshi Nakamoto's famous Genesis address continues to symbolize the creator's mysterious identity. This address, which holds a significant portion of the earliest mined bitcoins, highlights the enduring legacy of Bitcoin's pseudonymous founder.
