Crypto meets reality TV in a groundbreaking move by Uniswap Labs, which has recently acquired the popular online survival game, Crypto: The Game (CTG). This acquisition positions Uniswap Labs to potentially secure the crypto industry’s first Emmy Award. CTG is a strong contender for an Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Emerging Media Program category, thanks to its unique blend of gaming and reality TV.

Crypto: The Game follows a reality show format, featuring ten "tribes" composed of 80 players each, who compete in daily "immunity challenges" such as arcade games and online digital scavenger hunts. Players pay 0.1 Ether (ETH) to participate, with the last survivor claiming the prize pool after a 10% fee deduction. The losing tribes vote members out of the game, and players can earn personal immunity by tweeting about their participation. On the final day, previously eliminated players vote for one of the two remaining survivors.

The game operates in real time on a 24-hour cycle on the Base blockchain, with each season lasting ten days. Fans can follow the action on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Farcaster, and there’s even a dedicated podcast for the game. Since its introduction in January, CTG has gained significant traction, with season 1's prize totaling around $150,000 and season 2's winner netting $274,000 as the price of ETH increased. Season 2's entry NFTs sold out in just 15 minutes, and players can trade these NFTs, transferring their game positions to new buyers.

Lead developer Dylan Abruscato shared that CTG players include members of the crypto X community, influencers, market participants, and about 10-15% "normies," or individuals with no prior crypto exposure. On June 11, just before the Emmy nomination ballot lineup was announced, Uniswap Labs acquired CTG for an undisclosed amount of cash, crypto, and equity. Abruscato and his development team have joined Uniswap to oversee season 3 and develop additional interactive experiences for the crypto community.

CTG will be competing against other innovative programs such as virtual reality experiences, Verizon’s Catch My iPhone game, the Billboard Music Awards, and projects from notable figures like horror film director Eli Roth, composer Jean-Michel Jarre, celebrity Lucy Liu, and the Claymation duo Wallace & Gromit. Voting by members of a "peer group" will continue through June 25.
