The Solana blockchain has gained immense popularity, but its gaming infrastructure remains underdeveloped. According to Chris Zhu, CEO of Mirror World, a significant "infrastructure gap" hinders developers from building games on Solana. Certain features, such as cross-chain swaps and on/off crypto ramps, are unavailable for Solana gaming developers. For instance, applications like games struggle to integrate value on a shared Solana layer not designed for multiple applications.

To address this issue, Mirror World Labs, a Solana gaming studio, recently secured $12 million in Series A funding to further develop its gaming rollup, Sonic. This funding will help the company build a robust gaming ecosystem. Developers have been receptive to Sonic's technical capabilities, but some have requested that the main token liquidity be on Solana's mainnet. To resolve this, Mirror World enabled atomic interoperability, allowing liquidity to remain on the mainnet while processing game logic on Sonic.

Mirror World is aiming for a controlled aggregated transaction settlement of 12,000,000 transactions per second on Sonic and HyperGrid, which would support various multi-player real-time gaming transactions. To achieve this, the company is working directly with Solana validators to prioritize and submit transactions. Galaxy Interactive, one of the investors, has played a significant role in this process as the largest validator on Solana.

Looking ahead, Mirror World plans to introduce key milestones and new features to further support and expand the Solana gaming ecosystem. This includes expanding all relevant components to build a healthy, sustainable, and growing ecosystem, including gaming studios, infrastructure projects, and more. The company is positioned to be the gaming hub of Solana, supporting gaming studios in various aspects such as go-to-market support, regional marketing, and partnership collaborations.

Currently, Sonic is the only software development kit (SDK) on Solana. Its closest competitor, Eclipse, aims to build a Solana Virtual Machine on Ethereum, whereas Mirror World is focused on building a Solana-native SDK on its own blockchain. The company believes that its novel Sonic protocol can help other developers deploy Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) chains to support their own GameFi projects.
