The top members of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee recently met with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to discuss their strategy for passing legislation on regulating stablecoins. The effort to establish regulations for stablecoins in Congress is facing challenges, but Chairman Patrick McHenry and Rep. Maxine Waters are determined to move the bill forward.

McHenry has been vocal about the possibility of getting the stablecoin bill passed before he retires from Congress. The bill aims to provide guidelines for companies issuing stablecoins, which are digital tokens that offer a more stable alternative to volatile cryptocurrencies. Senator Cynthia Lummis has also expressed support for working on a stablecoin bill with Schumer.

Despite bipartisan support in the House committee, the legislation faces obstacles in getting a floor vote. The Senate Banking Committee has yet to show interest in the bill, making it challenging to move forward. However, there is still hope to attach the legislation to a must-pass bill, such as the FAA spending bill.
