Renowned trader Peter Brandt has made a bold prediction regarding Bitcoin's future valuation, suggesting that the digital asset will surge 230% against gold within the next 12 to 18 months. According to Brandt, the ratio of gold to Bitcoin will experience fluctuations during this period before ultimately reaching a new high, where one Bitcoin (BTC) will be worth 100 ounces of gold.

Brandt's prediction, while ambitious, is not without precedent. Historically, Bitcoin has steadily gained ground against gold. In 2017, Bitcoin surpassed gold in terms of price for the first time, peaking at $19,649 on December 17. At that time, gold was trading at approximately $1,264 per ounce, making one Bitcoin equivalent to roughly 15.5 ounces of gold.

Even during the 2018-2019 bear market, when Bitcoin's price dropped to a low of about $3,126 in December 2018, it still remained more valuable than gold, which reached a high of around $1,283 per ounce at the end of that month.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 caused significant market disruptions, but both Bitcoin and gold eventually recovered. Gold hit a new all-time high of approximately $2,075 per ounce in August 2020 amidst fears of recession and inflation. During the same period, Bitcoin was trading around $12,341.

Both assets had a challenging year in 2022 but rebounded in 2023. As of May 2024, gold reached an all-time high of about $2,449 per ounce and is currently trading around $2,320 per ounce. Bitcoin, after hitting a high of approximately $74,000, has settled at $67,210 at the time of writing. Based on these current prices, it takes about 29 ounces of gold to purchase one Bitcoin.

Brandt's prediction hinges on the continuation of Bitcoin's historical trend of outperforming gold. While the exact timeline and conditions for this surge remain uncertain, the potential for Bitcoin to reach the equivalent of 100 ounces of gold is rooted in its past performance and the ongoing interest from institutional investors.
