Traditional financial institutions are exploring innovative methods to provide investors with access to digital assets through exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

On June 27, Bloomberg Intelligence ETF Analyst Henry Jim highlighted three new ETF offerings designed to give investors exposure to Bitcoin, Gold, Ethereum, and MicroStrategy.

Stacked Bitcoin and Gold ETF

Tidal Investments and Quantify Chaos Advisors have jointly submitted a prospectus for a new ETF that offers indirect exposure to Bitcoin and Gold. This ETF utilizes investments in Bitcoin futures, gold futures, cash, reverse purchase agreements, and other Bitcoin or Gold-related ETFs to provide combined exposure to both assets without direct purchases.

The ETF aims to blend Bitcoin and Gold strategies to offer complementary benefits despite their lack of correlation. It seeks to minimize short-term market fluctuations and provide stable investment opportunities.

MicroStrategy ETF

Separately, T-Rex Group, a leading ETF issuer, has applied to the SEC for funds that would offer investors 2X Long and inverted leveraged positions on MicroStrategy. If approved, these funds would expose investors to about 20 times the typical volatility of the S&P 500.

Bloomberg’s senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas commented that these ETFs would likely be the most volatile ever seen in the US market, comparable to approximately 20 times the volatility of the S&P 500 index.

MicroStrategy, known for being the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin with 214,400 BTC, represents over 1% of the total supply of the leading cryptocurrency. The company’s executive chairman, Michael Saylor, has been a prominent advocate for Bitcoin and has committed to continuing its acquisition strategy.

Ether Option Income Strategy ETF

YieldMax has also filed for an ETF that holds spot Ethereum ETFs and sells calls for income. This strategy provides investors with indirect exposure to ETH, the second-largest digital asset by market cap.

According to Jim, this ETF will invest in spot ETH ETFs and generate income by selling options on them, with a capped upside linked to the performance of the underlying Ether ETFs.

The filing clarifies that the ETF does not directly invest in ETH or other digital assets, avoids derivatives tracking ETH performance, and does not seek direct exposure to ETH’s spot or cash price.
