The Winklevoss twins, founders of Gemini, returned their excess Bitcoin donation to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign after exceeding the legal limit. Each twin contributed $1 million in Bitcoin, exceeding the $844,600 limit for individual contributions. The excess amount, $155,400 each, was refunded to the twins.

Trump’s campaign has accepted Bitcoin donations, reflecting his embrace of the cryptocurrency community. The contributions were divided among Trump’s campaign, his leadership political action committee, the Republican National Committee, and 42 state GOP committees.

The Winklevoss twins have openly supported Trump, labeling him as a “pro-Bitcoin” and “pro-crypto” candidate. They have also faced regulatory challenges with their crypto exchange, Gemini, including a settlement with financial regulators and a lawsuit by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Trump’s engagement with the crypto industry is part of his larger effort to garner support from the business community and tech elites. This approach differs from the current administration led by President Joe Biden, which the Winklevoss twins and other crypto enthusiasts have alleged is against the industry by introducing regulations.

Stand With Crypto PAC has also been active in endorsing candidates who support the cryptocurrency business. The PAC has endorsed 18 candidates for the upcoming elections, highlighting the increasing political power of crypto voters.
