Worldcoin's WLD token surged more than 12% to exceed $3 in the past day following significant achievements in various jurisdictions.

Worldcoin, a proof-of-personhood crypto project known for its facial data collection, has faced global scrutiny and controversy since its inception, leading to a substantial decline in the WLD token's value, dropping over 70% from its March peak of $11.

Despite these challenges, the project recently achieved key milestones in its operations, prompting a rebound in the token's price.

Kenya halts Worldcoin investigation

Worldcoin informed CryptoSlate that Kenya has ended its investigation into the project. A spokesperson confirmed that Kenya's Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) closed the probe into alleged data collection violations by Worldcoin. Thomas Scott, Chief Legal Officer at Tools for Humanity, stated:

"We appreciate the thorough investigation by the DCI and the decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions to close the case. While this is a positive outcome, it marks a new beginning. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Kenyan government and others, aiming to resume World ID registrations nationwide soon."

This development comes after Worldcoin agreed to suspend its operations in Spain until year-end or pending a final decision from the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (BayLDA) regarding its data management practices.

Expansion in Ecuador

On June 19, Worldcoin announced the upcoming deployment of its World ID verification orbs in six locations across Guayaquil and Quito, Ecuador.

The orbs will commence operations on June 26 in Guayaquil and June 27 in Quito, with their locations available on the Worldcoin website and app starting June 24.

This expansion aligns with increasing global support for technology-driven initiatives to distinguish humans from bots online. Worldcoin reported that 92% of respondents in a recent Ecuadorian survey endorse such solutions, reflecting concerns in Peru and Colombia about the potential for bots to amplify fraud and misinformation.
