Worldcoin, a pioneering identification platform utilizing iris-scanning technology, is set to introduce World Chain this summer, leveraging Optimism’s OP Stack to alleviate network congestion.

The launch of World Chain comes as a solution to address congestion challenges on its existing platform, particularly noteworthy as Worldcoin's activity represents a substantial portion, approximately 43%, of all transactions on Optimism.

With backing from AI luminary Sam Altman, Worldcoin's overarching goal is to distribute a universal currency while authenticating identities. Since its inception, Worldcoin has garnered significant traction, boasting over five million users. The introduction of World Chain aims to leverage proof of personhood technology to verify transactions and combat bot activity, a common source of network strain.

To mitigate bot interference, World Chain will implement a pricing mechanism that elevates gas fees for automated systems, thereby subsidizing costs for occasional users. This approach is strategically devised to prioritize human users by reducing their expenses and expediting transaction confirmations.

Optimism’s Chief Growth Officer Ryan Wyatt has expressed support for Worldcoin’s approach, suggesting that a focus on human interaction could potentially broaden Optimism’s user base. Worldcoin's roadmap includes the development of applications centered around payments, stablecoins, and identity verification.

Despite its innovative strides, Worldcoin faces regulatory scrutiny in certain jurisdictions such as Spain and Portugal due to concerns regarding data collection practices, resulting in temporary restrictions.

Worldcoin's associated token, WLD, currently trades at approximately $4.87. Notably, it will serve as the designated gas token on World Chain, underlining its practical utility within the ecosystem.
