The XRP Ledger has witnessed a dramatic surge in activity, igniting a 350% increase in payment transactions quarter-over-quarter (QoQ), according to the State of XRP Ledger Q1 2024 report released by Messari. This remarkable rise in transactions, averaging two million daily, commenced in late Q4 2023 and sustained momentum into Q1 2024 before tapering off towards the quarter's end.

A staggering 22 million payments were processed in just one week, predominantly driven by inscriptions, culminating in an average of two million daily payment transactions throughout Q1. This unprecedented increase has significantly transformed the XRP Ledger's transaction landscape, with payments overtaking OfferCreates as the most prevalent transaction type during the quarter.

Overall, total transactions on the XRP Ledger surged by 113% QoQ, averaging 2.8 million per day. The report highlighted that nearly all metrics of network activity saw an uptrend in Q1 2024. Active addresses and transactions experienced increases of 37% and 113% QoQ, respectively. Notably, the number of active sending addresses (unique senders) surged by 92% QoQ, surpassing unique receivers for the first time since Q1 2022.

The robust growth of the XRP Ledger in Q1 was propelled by a surge in payment transactions and the introduction of new features and functionalities. The Automated Market Maker (AMM) feature was launched at the end of Q1, and decentralized exchange (DEX) volumes on the central limit order book (CLOB) grew by 41% QoQ.

In addition to these developments, a USD-pegged stablecoin was announced, set to launch on both the XRP Ledger (XRPL) and Ethereum, leveraging XRPL's native functionality alongside ERC-20 token standards. New features such as the clawback function were also introduced, aimed at helping asset issuers maintain compliance. The integration of the Axelar bridge and the new stablecoin is expected to act as liquidity catalysts for the new AMM and forthcoming tokenized assets from real-world asset (RWA) projects like Zioniqx.

In January, Ripple released version 2.0 of its software, proposing several amendments for community voting. These include a Cross-Chain bridge (XLS-38), Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs, XLS-40), among others, indicating a proactive approach towards enhancing the functionality and interoperability of the XRP Ledger.
