A recent survey by PolicyGenius revealed that over one-fifth of young individuals in the United States are investing in cryptocurrency, particularly the younger generation who are four times more likely to invest in crypto than older generations.

Gen Z, ranging from 18 to 26 years old, showed a strong preference for crypto investments over traditional assets, with 20% of respondents owning crypto compared to 18% owning stocks, 13% owning real estate, and 11% owning bonds.

In comparison, millennials aged 27 to 42 are slightly more inclined towards crypto investments, with 22% owning crypto. However, their ownership of traditional assets like stocks (27%) and real estate (24%) remains higher than their crypto investments.

The survey also revealed that 9% of Gen Z respondents own NFTs, slightly more than the 8% of millennials who own them.

The survey emphasized a clear generational gap in investment preferences, with older generations exhibiting lower crypto ownership rates. Only 10% of Gen X respondents and 4% of NFT owners belonged to the older age group. Additionally, just 5% of boomers own crypto, and only 1% own NFTs.

Real estate investment trends also portrayed a generational difference, with a combined 21% of Gen Z and millennials investing in crypto compared to 20% in real estate. Despite Gen Z and millennial rates being close, older investors, such as boomers, have a significantly higher investment in real estate, with 45% of them holding real estate investments.

The report suggests that the housing shortage and high costs may hinder younger individuals from investing in real estate, potentially leading them to explore alternative investments like crypto, which can offer appealing investment opportunities.
