Renowned blockchain investigator ZachXBT has been appointed as one of the four guardians overseeing a multi-signature wallet containing the compromised user funds of the GameFi protocol Munchables.

The addition of ZachXBT as the fourth signatory marks the final step in ensuring the safe return of user assets, according to an announcement by Munchables developers on April 1st. The other custodians include Manifold Trading, Selini Capital, and Munchables itself.

Additionally, Nethermind will be brought on board to conduct a thorough audit of all updated contracts before the platform resumes operations. All user assets have been successfully recovered, and refunds will be directly distributed to affected users' wallets following the exploit.

ZachXBT confirmed his temporary role as a signatory during the initial phase, expressing his preference not to remain on the multisig for an extended period and expecting any changes in signatories to be officially communicated by the Munchables team. Incentives such as enhanced game rewards await depositors who contributed to the recovery efforts.

The platform also plans to reintroduce itself with NFT migration strategies and undisclosed additional features. Custodians and users instrumental in thwarting the attack will receive ETH and future MUNCH donations as tokens of appreciation.

Quoting Confucius, Munchables developers reflected on the resilience of the human spirit in adversity. The exploit, which occurred on March 26, resulted in a loss of $63 million for Munchables, a platform operating on the Ethereum layer-2 network Blast.

Allegedly, the breach was facilitated by the hiring of a developer using the pseudonym “Werewolves0943,” who purportedly compromised the game's private wallets. In a subsequent analysis, ZachXBT revealed that the exploiter impersonated multiple developers within the Munchables team.

Following the revelation, the malicious developer willingly provided access to the compromised private keys without any conditions.
