Zerion, a provider of web3 smart accounts, has revealed its intention to introduce a Layer 2 network where users won't have to pay transaction fees. The announcement of this initiative was made on March 14, unveiling Zerion's upcoming Zero Chain that will support users by covering gas fees, capitalizing on the significant decrease in transaction expenses on Layer 2 resulting from Ethereum's Dencun fork and the EIP-4844 upgrade, also known as proto-danksharding.

The EIP-4844 upgrade, which introduced binary large objects (blobs) in place of gas-intensive calldata, has led to a notable reduction in Layer 2 transaction costs.

Previously, calldata accounted for a substantial portion, ranging from 73% to 90%, of these costs, with proto-danksharding contributing to fee reductions on Layer 2 networks by as much as 50% to 98%.

Evgeny.eth, the CEO and co-founder of Zerion, expressed enthusiasm about the fee reduction facilitated by EIP-4844, stating, "It's remarkable to witness such low gas fees with EIP-4844. Our next goal is to reach ZERO." Zerion shared the news on Twitter, announcing the imminent arrival of the Zero Network with zero fees.

Zerion has disclosed its plan to launch the Zero Chain towards the end of Q2 or the beginning of Q3 this year. The company aims to introduce measures to detect transaction spam effectively to prevent subsidizing the associated fees. Zerion's smart accounts offer advanced wallet features through account abstraction, enabling users to oversee tokens, staked assets, and NFTs across various networks using a unified interface.

By covering transaction fees, Zerion anticipates attracting more users to its wallet service, with the expectation of generating higher revenue from wallet service fees than the amount spent on subsidizing user transaction costs.
